Productive Saturday

by Natalie on Mar.28, 2009, under Off the Wall, Technology

I swore to myself I was going to sit around the house and do *nothing*! Yeah, I failed.

I got two great things done today which made me feel like I hadn’t wasted the entire day away.

My first task was a carryover from yesterday. I helped @wqmodeler (George) get his blog up and running. He’d been running a blog designed on his Mac (puke) and had mentioned seeing my blog a long time ago and how he wanted one just like it. He offered to pay me for helping him on it because at the time I was pretty low on cash, but it was something I was pretty sure I didn’t need to get paid for. So, yesterday I shot him an e-mail with instructions on how to install WordPress on his GoDaddy account (*phew* I have GoDaddy hosting, too, makes things super simple). I tried to be as detailed as possible. Every click I made I wrote it down. After I got this done, I e-mailed the set of instructions off to him. About 6 hours later I got an e-mail from George excited that he had his blog up. Next I needed to help him get his theme setup and his page redirect (his index.html was pointing to his old Mac blog).

Cory gets his Eye-Fi Card

Cory gets his Eye-Fi Card

Cory is crossing America in a Ford Van. So far he has visited Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisana, Texas, Kansas and is now in Nebraska. I started following him on Twitter when he was still in Kansas after Christian began tweeting about him. It was only yesterday (although I could’ve sworn it was a lot earlier than that) that I began talking to him via Twitter since he had just crossed over into Nebraska from Kansas.

Thanks to Eye-Fi!

by Natalie on Aug.24, 2008, under Technology

Well, I’ve been just a tad too busy playing with my new toy to write up a blog post on this, but it is needed, and although it occurred Friday, it is already overdue.

The Tale of the Missing Eye-Fi Card

by Natalie on Jul.18, 2008, under Technology

It all started when I ordered an Eye-Fi Explore Card from Eye-Fi, which was mailed out on Friday, expected to be here by Monday. Thursday came, and I began to get really worried that the card hadn’t arrived yet. Larry from Eye-Fi sent me the confirmation number and I looked it up. It *had been* delivered on Monday. I about shit my pants because it had gone missing. I called the station manager at the Northwest Omaha station and discussed the problem. A sub had delivered the mail on Monday to my route and wasn’t there that day, but would be on Friday, so he would call me back.
Friday came, no call from the station manager yet, so I called him. He said that the carrier did deliver the package on Monday and it was out in the parcels box outside next to the cluster box, so there had been a key left in our mailbox. I told this to Jeremy, although he didn’t quite get the concept that if there’s a package in the top or the bottom parcel box that the carrier will leave a key that goes to its respective parcel box in the recipient’s mailbox. After I explained it to him and he figured out what I was saying, he asked Diane, the temp receptionist, what she had done with the key and if she had ever found one in the mailbox. She had, and didn’t know what it was for and gave it to the maintenence guy. So, Jeremy had to track down the maintenence guy, but it was quite possible that he had disgarded the key. I made the station manager aware of this, and he said either we find the key or they have to come out on Monday and replace the lock, drilling a new hole for it. Then, when I was out on a smoke break, Diane and Jeremy came outside with a key! They had found it. They opened the bottom parcel box and lo and behold, there was a package. It was addressed to Designer Imports, the company next door. FUCK! So, I called the station manager back, said that we found the key and that it was for the bottom box, but the package inside wasn’t ours, it was the next door neighbor’s, and I asked him if there was still a possibility that the package was in the top parcel box. He said that the carrier told him that he had placed it in the top box, so he’d send someone out there immediately. About 45 minutes went by and Jeremy came past my desk with the package from Eye-Fi. Turns out that the carrier never delivered the key for the top box to anybody at all, and had been sitting there this whole week, so it was nobody’s fault but the carrier.
Fin.

The Culprit Catching Eye-Fi Card!

by Natalie on Jun.07, 2008, under Technology

Alright, so I get this e-mail from one of my colleagues today titled, “Lost Cameras Phone Home To Catch Thieves,” or something along those lines. I go on to read the story on Reuters.com.

Alicia I guess hadn’t seen this yet and had no idea of the story. After I mentioned it, Alicia was like, “What?!”

Long Week for Eye-Fi

The Eye-Fi Crew

The Eye-Fi Crew

OMG, I had such a fun week. Tuesday was my first day on Eye-Fi 100%. One of the Tier II guys, Larry, came to town Tuesday, also. Not a lot was done on Tuesday, just work stuff. Wednesday we (Larry, Alicia, Bianca, Troy and I) went out to The Upstream Brewery for dinner. We ended up standing outside from about 10 to midnight. Then, Thursday while I was sitting at home I was bored as hell, so I went to work to hang out with Bianca and Larry. I walked over to Mickey Finn’s since Larry told me that Alicia was over there. We hung out there until about 8, I ran home, gave Tomek some money for gas and came back out. At about 11 we left and went down to South O for some *real* tacos, that was an experience. It was my first real taco. Larry was fascinated with the lightning all night long on the way back to the bar to get our cars. Friday morning and afternoon we were all at work again, got some of our last photos in with Larry and he took off for San Jose at about 2:30. It was unbelievably quiet after he left. I guess we all miss him already. Those two nights were probably some of the best nights I’ve had in years, though. It’s nice to know I finally have a couple of friends I can hang out with at the bar in Alicia and Bianca.
