Betta Breeding Day 1
by Natalie on Jul.28, 2009, under Betta Breeding, Bettas
Day 1 always begins with the basics, right? I’m going to attempt breeding my Bettas in August. I have chosen Dot (my white female CT) and Lex (my black/blue with zebra stripes and leopard spots male HM). I am going for color as opposed to tail type, so putting a white female with a black male who each carry the metallic gene should be awesome. Maybe round two I will give Apache and Dot a go.
I went to Petsmart and picked up a 10 gallon tank ($13.99) and a 2 way breeder ($3.99). I used a plain styrofoam cup for the egg nest that Lex will build.
I filled the tank up about 6-7″, leaving the bottom bare of course. I think I will end up needing a heater, but as all of my tanks stay at about 78-80 without a heater, I’m unsure of that so far.
I have yet to pick up some java moss or fern yet, but will do so once the tank has cycled. I think I will let it sit for 2 weeks, but am not 100% sure on that yet.
